What to Expect
We suggest you dress comfortably on the day of your procedure. Bring a snack, water or juice in a plastic container, and something to read if you wish.
Do not bring children to the appointment as you will likely be with us for 2-3 hours and we do not have childcare facilities. There is a childcare center within several blocks of the clinic that does accept children and infants on a drop-in basis. Please contact our staff for further information.
You must bring a picture ID for security reasons.
If you wear acrylic fingernails, we ask that you remove one nail on your left hand, prior to arriving for your procedure.
You must have a driver to take you home on the day of the procedure. Your driver must be present in the waiting room at the time you are taken back to the operating room and must remain in the clinic until you are released from the recovery room.
Do eat breakfast on the day of your procedure, but we recommend you avoid anything greasy or fried or spicy. Cereal, juice, and toast are a perfect choice. You should limit caffeine-containing liquids in the 2 or 3 days immediately preceding your appointment. DO drink lots of non-caffeinated liquids (water, juice, decaf teas, milk) in the days prior to your appointment.
For security reasons, partners and support people are not allowed in the procedure areas. We do encourage your partner or support person to attend a portion of the counseling session that deals with a description of the procedure itself and with how to care for yourself after the abortion. Please be sure to inform your counselor if you would like your support person to participate in this way.
Do not use any aspirin, Valium, marijuana or any street drugs within 5 days prior to your appointment. All of these substances can cause serious complications for you during and after the procedure.
If you have any other questions, please do not hesitate to contact one of our staff for further information. To receive additional information, or to make an appointment, please contact the clinic directly at the numbers below.
